WE CARE ABOUT THE IMPACT OF OUR ACTIVITIES ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
All human activities have an impact on the environment. That’s why we actively protect the environment in which we work, and which is the home of our host communities. We have a responsibility to preserve it. Here are some of our commitments in this regard.
SUSTAINABLE USE AND MANAGEMENT OF OUR RESOURCES.
Water is essential to all mining operations. Clean, healthy water is essential to sustain a vital and healthy ecosystem. That’s why we’re committed to safeguarding water through proper management and responsible use.
From the start of the construction of the Renard site, we installed a storm water management infrastructure and a temporary water treatment plant.
We have an exhaustive waste and hazardous materials management program in place. This program is based on three complementary approaches:
- Sorting residual materials at source.
- Apply the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) and transform residual materials.
- Control quantities of residual materials.
These measures help us minimize waste and hazardous materials and reduce pollution of the underground water and of the environment.
As soon as construction of the Renard mine began, we initiated a rehabilitation process to restore the environment to its former level of natural condition and sustainability. Among others we have:
- Rehabilitated quarries and restored the fish habitat in the rivers between Mistissini and the Renard mine.
- Implemented “eco-permits”, i.e., internal approvals that require Management approval prior to initiating any work. The purpose of these eco-permits is to ensure that we have received the required government approvals; that environmental impact mitigation measures are applied; and that all regulations related to the work have been identified and complied with.
IT’S OUR WORLD.
We’re committed to making it shine.
